Scaling & Root Planing
Before gum disease has the chance to spread and cause loose teeth and bone loss, we can perform what is known as scaling and root planing. Also referred to as deep cleaning, this process is two-fold. Scaling involves removing bacteria from teeth and around the gumline, while root planing smooths out the roots of teeth to make it harder for bacteria to congregate in the future. It also encourages the gums to reattach to your teeth.
Antibiotic Treatment
When gum pockets form, scaling and root planing can do a lot to remove harmful bacteria, but these treatments often cannot reach into the small crevices that are found between your teeth and gums. With antibiotic treatment, we can apply specific medication to the gum pockets so that it will target areas of bacteria over several weeks, effectively eliminating them.
