Why Choose Harper Dental for TMJ Treatment?
What Is TMJ Disorder?
The TMJs (temporomandibular joints) are located on either side of the jaw and connect to the base of your skull. TMJ disorder, also known as TMD, is a condition that occurs when these joints become inflamed or damaged for any reason. Limited jaw mobility and increasing pain can negatively affect daily life by making it harder to eat, waking up with frequent headaches, experiencing a stiff neck or shoulders, and dealing with increasing discomfort that radiates throughout your jaw, head, and other facial structures.
How We Treat TMJ Disorder
Treating TMJ disorder first requires careful examination and diagnosis. Once Dr. Cooper or Dr. Harper perform the necessary tests and imaging, we will be able to determine if it’s bite misalignment or teeth grinding that may be contributing to your TMJ. We’ll then recommend occlusal adjustment/equilibration or a custom-made occlusal splint to fix the problem so that you can move your jaw, eat normally, and better protect your smile, all without any pain.
